WEIGHTLESSNESS: Life on Earth in a Space Void of Gravitation

There is no perceiving Lux Aeterna Theatre mentally.
Even psychoanalysis as well as various systems, developed from time to time by theatre reformers, fail to achieve it. If anything one runs the risk trying to perceive Lux Aeterna Theatre. Things taking place here should be …experienced. It is akin to a state of amorousness – light and airy. To a union with diamonds of stars. You are simply sitting at the summit of a high mountain. With your eyes closed. Clouds are floating by below and above you. …You let go of your feelings, allowing them to find freedom, making no attempt to restrain them within the boundaries of the material. Set free, these feelings can see and hear unassisted by any complementary organs – eyes or ears. They register and experience the world through the most exquisite tangle of sensations. It is for these reasons that they dispense with mummers, theatres with footlight and distracting attention scenery. Light and Sound Waves flood the space unhindered with their non-recurrent tone-colours and vibrations.
…Only those things that are WEIGHTLESS by nature…

Lux Aeterna Theatre in Planetarium: Cosmos in front of our eyes, making up

a philosophy of Color, Light and Sound.

During the first part of an hour planetarium performance we saw abstract light spots coming to life on an enormous dome to the accompaniment of dull pseudo-opera music by Vangelis. Everyone was looking up open-mouthed and watching tensely the development of the plot. It was unclear how these light shapes – impregnated and transparent – could be associated with the interacting characters. Be it love or death it was always something of utter importance. The second part started right after with no intermission in between so that the eyes could not become disaccustomed to the darkness. Now lasers got down to business. The plot was unraveling quickly and one felt frightened at times: it was as if you witnessed a saga of the origins of life, of the times and creatures existing in the Universe long before the Earth emerged… Cosmos, I tell you!

Spectators are going to experience weightlessness

You are certain to forget that your body has a weight, volume and is on a solid ground,- this is not a quotation from a manual of a miraculous gymnastics. This sensation was promised to be evoked under the influence of a light and music performance of Lux Aeterna Theatre by light artist Taras Vorotnyak. If you feel free of gravitation we have managed to give a good performance, he says.

One of the performances shown in St Petersburg by a unique theatre runs under the name “Gravitation Free”. The second  -  “Exhilaration of the Milky ways”, a heavenly and cosmic name… As was emphasized by the creators, these performances were meant, first of all, for those in love. Nothing but the dome of the planetarium can act as a stage for Lux Aeterna’s laser performances about the mysteries of the galaxy and a starry sky.

The main characters in a laser theatre are sound and light. It is up to equipment to make them create unreal cosmic and fairylike images. Optical devices applied in its performances are hand-made and unparalleled. Although equipment is of rather great importance during light and music performances, – thinks creator and director of the Theatre Daniel Freedman, – its role is not decisive. Imagination is more valuable that equipment as it is possible to create a beautiful performance with a few hundreds of flash lamps. Every performance has a script that is more like a libretto.
